The ALS Care Group is multidisciplinary; its aims are

1.      Confirm or refute the diagnosis

2.      Initiate discussions with the patient, family members, and care givers about the disease and therapeutic options.

3.      Arrange any necessary ancillary tests to rule out a possible alternative diagnosis.

4.      Implement the best possible therapies that are currently available. Offer involvement in drug trials and other research activities.

5.      Assess functional needs and supply necessary aids for improving quality of life.

6.      Assess home environment and make suggestions for improvements.

7.      Continuing care through follow-up appointments and home visits.

8.      Patient advocacy.

9.      Support groups for patients and care givers.

10.    Help with supply and support of equipment.
